A duplex Plateau Mont-Royal is converted into single-family residence today. It is a major project of four students of architecture. They wanted to create a home unique, extraordinary. Without even the client for the four acolytes, architecture students have designed the site according to their own vision of space. What is the concept? A modern housing is a cohesive place where every piece is part of a whole. From the outside, the duplex retained its old appearance. Nothing hints at the magnitude of the changes that took place inside.
But once you pass the doorstep, it is projected into another universe, far from conventional apartments in Montreal where a narrow corridor leads to various small rooms. Underlying is this remarkable transformation: an opening in the center of the building which allows for views of both floors of the residence. It was this breakthrough that appealed to Christian, became owner. This included renovating his old house where, by coincidence, his path crossed that of the four students. “I started to imagine what might look like my house, once restored, he says. That this quartet was doing was exactly what I planned. I even made drawings and sketches before they see their home, and the resemblance between my sketches and what these students had planned was amazing. This is the result I wanted. “
